I have been to the little town of Kismet on Fire Island three times now. The first time (Sept 2006) was to discover what my best friend did on his summer weekends and swim in the surf and play some beach volleyball. I didn't get to play beach volleyball the first trip because a storm knocked out the vollyball net just before I arrived. The second time I got to play some beach volleyball, do some soul searching and take pictures of the Guacomole and Margarita Contest (Aug 2007). The third time (also Aug 2007) I got to take some pictures that I couldn't take the week before because my battery died and I didn't have my charger. I got to take those photos this past weekend and although all are taseful artistic shots, some are more artistic than others and maybe Jenni will let me include them in my gallery here. I also photographed the Sand Sculpture Competition and an outrageous (o.k. it wasn't soooo outrageous) bachelorette party (a.k.a for those Australians... a "Hen Party). So, all in all it was a very good weekend for my camera and my soul.
Kismet is a wonderful little town. Only two bars: 1) the IN and 2) the OUT. This last weekend, the IN had a live band with a huge horn section and the OUT's DJ played some dance music. With only two bars, it is hard not to meet everyone on the island.
My last two weekends in Kismet, I stayed in a share house known as Kismet Bliss [link] . The people attracted to this particular house are awesome! It is know as the "fitness" house. After a night of "whatever," a fitness instructor (Cat Girl) takes us on morning runs/pilates/stretching. After exercise, refreshed, it's time to hit the beach for a book or a snooze or a swim or a chat with one of the wonderful people you met the at the house or met the night before.
I am positive that out of the many aquaintances that I made many will turn into long lasting friendships.
